Snap Shots

Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com
I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site. Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not. Just look for the text bubble and move your mouse over it. A screen shot of the website will pop up. It's that easy!

Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.

Stephanie Meyer - Twilight

The Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer has been EXTREMELY popular. I have not had a chance to read it but it has been praised by both high school students and adults. The waiting list is long for any book in this series so I will not be able to read it any time soon, so please tell me about it!!! I want to hear what you think of it. What is your favorite part? Who are the characters? Why do you like it? PLEASE SHARE!

Computer Help

I know that sometimes using new software can be a pain. I am fairly good at giving directions, so if you need help with any of the library databases, website, or card catalog, please let me know. There are several things for which I already have directions created. You can access the card catalog online. You can request items to be sent to the library of your choice. You can see what you have checked out or any notes on your card. You can even renew items. The databases are wonderful. Poke through them and see what we have!

Back to School Bash - Family Fun Time

Come join the fun Thursday September 25th at the Women's Club! All students are welcome. We will have an activity or event related to several school subjects. Disect owl pellets, learn ductapigami, make masks, discover explorers, make your own trail mix, and learn what the library can do for you. There will be games, crafts, music and more. Come check it out!

Senior Project

It has already begun! I have had 1 senior already come in to make sure we have the materials he needs. Way to go! Please come in and see us before you pick your topic. We can help. We can order books from other libraries to be sent here for you. If given enough time, if there is nothing else in Polk County it is even possible for me to purchase items on your topic. I can't make that decision unless I know the item is needed. I WANT TO HELP!! Don't wait until the last minute. Start looking up items for your topic now. PLEASE!!!!

DVD Policy

I have just changed our DVD policy. DVD's did go out for 2 days with 1 renewal, totaling 4 days. Now they will go out for 7 days with no renewal. This will also allow them to be checked out from or returned to any library. Let me know what you think about the new policy.

Library's New Look

August 4th through the 9th we were closed for inventory. We scanned every item in the building and put every book exactly where it belongs. Yes, we were ther every day working hard! During that time we also got new carpet in the adult section. Since all the shelves were being moved around anyway, I decided to change the look of the library. We moved 8 computers closer to the front desk to make it easier for people to get help. We rotated the reference collection so we could see down the aisles. We spread the shelves out. We even created a seating area in the large print section. I think that the library looks more open and regains that friendly feel that it had when it was first built. Have you seen the changes? Let me know what you think. Here are some pictures of just a little of the work that was done that week.
